The Pink Carnation:
At my son’s middle school graduation, all students received a pink carnation to give to the person that most inspired them through middle school. Many students gave them to parents, siblings, etc. When we met up with him outside, he was still holding his carnation, even though, both his parents and grandmothers were there. I noticed his friend, Josh, still had his carnation, even though both his parents, and all four grandparents. So I asked Nathaniel, “why haven’t you given your carnation to anyone?” His reply, “I did. I gave mine to Josh and he gave his to me.” I was really moved by the testament of their friendship. After thinking about it, I was also really impressed by their ingenious act of diplomacy.
